Potting medium, fertilizing, watering, and light: the four keys to growing flowers well

For good roots, light is essential. Light is the driving force behind root development. The stronger the light, the more water evaporates from the leaf surface, and the more nutrients are consumed, which drives root development to increase water and nutrient uptake. For good roots, light is essential. Light is the driving force behind root development. The stronger the light, the more water evaporates from the leaf surface, and the more nutrients are consumed, which drives root development to increase water and nutrient uptake. This is just like people: the more exercise you do, the more you eat and drink. As long as nutrition keeps up, and you eat well, drink enough, and sleep well, it is hard not to be healthy and strong. If a person sits in an office all day, enjoys air conditioning, takes a car everywhere, has clothes handed to them and meals served, eats rare delicacies, and does no exercise, then despite being big in size they have no shortage of ailments; conversely, if they only do heavy manual labor and high-intensity activity while nutrition does not keep up, not eating or drinking enough, it is also hard to have a strong body. All things in the world follow the same principle: once you understand one thing, you understand a hundred; balance is the way.

Once you understand this principle, it is not hard to work out the management method best suited to your own environment. If your fertilizer is on the rich side, then increase light as appropriate; if the potting medium is on the fine side and holds water strongly, then also increase light as appropriate; conversely, if the potting medium is coarser and on the leaner side, reduce light appropriately, and it is fine to supply a little less water; if the potting medium is coarse and the environmental light is also strong, then increase both fertilizing and watering to prevent the orchid grass from consuming too much, which leads to thin, yellowing leaves........

In nature, for the same plant species, shade-grown roots are few while sun-grown roots are vigorous; this is almost an ironclad rule. Do not believe it? Just find a patch of lawn and observe.

Even if you use field soil to cultivate orchid grass, someone who understands the principle can still grow it very well. Potting medium can be used as you please; the key lies in management.
