Introduction to the Characteristics of the Fujian Youxi Su Jianlan (Cymbidium ensifolium) Variety
Yandang Su is similar to Youxi Su, but they are not the same variety. The shoulders differ, the lateral petals also show some differences, and the differences in the column are not small either. A traditional plain-flowered variety from Fujian, with a long history of cultivation. The leaves of this variety are dark green, strap-shaped, and appear slightly long. What is rare is that the flower has a rush-pith stalk, with greenish-white flowers, neither too large nor too small, looking delicate and fragile, evoking pity in all who see it. Unfortunately, the height can only reach level with the shelf. If water is withheld early before flowering, the tongue can remain open for a long time without curling. When this variety first arrived, the flowers had no fragrance; in the second year of reblooming, it had a faint fragrance; only in the third year did it produce wave after wave of delicate fragrance, with a very good scent, far surpassing the ordinary Longyan Su. I nearly lost this good variety because of its faint fragrance. Youxi Su leaves are relatively prone to developing black spots; after several years of growing and cultivating it, there has only been slight improvement, but it is relatively easy to manage.
