A detailed guide to the correct use of Magic Fertilizer and Hi-Control
First, the formulas are different. Hi-Control is 13-13-13-TE, a balanced type usable all year round, and there is also 18-6-8, a high-nitrogen type, for use during the orchid growing season. Magic Fertilizer is 7-40-6-12, a high-phosphorus formula mainly to promote root growth and flowering. Second, the fertilizer duration is different.
Hi-Control is a resin-coated fertilizer that uses water molecule pressure to force the nutrients wrapped in the resin to be released slowly outward, generally over half a year. Magic Fertilizer does not dissolve in water; it slowly melts through the root acids secreted by the plant when it is hungry, and generally lasts 1-2 years.
Magic Fertilizer contains relatively more magnesium, which is beneficial to chlorophyll formation, and its nitrogen ratio is also relatively high; both of these are unfavorable to the formation of variegation. So it is best not to use Magic Fertilizer on variegated orchids. When applying it to other orchids, a slight overdose is not a big problem. When placing it, it is best to keep it close to the roots [Magic Fertilizer does no damage to orchid roots]. Fertilizer duration 1-2 years
Hi-Control can simply be placed on the surface of the pot, generally at a ratio of 3 granules per growth. Fertilizer duration half a year!
