Yesterday, the State Council announced that the Third National Agricultural Census will be conducted in 2016, with the standard reference time of the census being December 31, 2016, and the period data being the data for the year 2016.

It is understood that the Third National Agricultural Census mainly covers crop farming, forestry, animal husbandry, fishery and agriculture-forestry-animal husbandry-fishery service industries. The census targets are rural households within the territory of the People's Republic of China, including rural agricultural production and operation households and other households; urban agricultural production and operation households; agricultural production and operation units; villagers' committees; and township people's governments, etc.

According to the reporter's understanding, China's agricultural census is conducted once every 10 years, in years ending in 6. Its purpose is to ascertain the “family assets” of rural areas, farmers and agriculture, helping the state to more accurately grasp our country's agricultural production situation and formulate relevant policies to facilitate better rural development. In this Third Agricultural Census, the main contents of the census include not only the basic situation of agricultural practitioners, the situation of agricultural land use and transfer, the situation of agricultural production and structure, and the situation of new agricultural operation entities and agricultural scale-oriented and industrialized development, but also the situation of changes in rural human settlements and farmers' lifestyles, etc.
