Introduction to the Characteristics of the Red Charm Lotus Duoban Orchid Variety
Red Charm Lotus, discovered in 2005 in the Wumeng Mountain range of northeastern Yunnan, with a plant height of about 15-20CM, 5-7 leaves per plant, leaf width 0.5-1CM, semi-upright, with an abrupt tapering tip, obvious mid-leaf spread, thick and glutinous leaf texture, oily and lustrous, with bright veins. The flower scape is about 20CM tall, with the flower held above the leaves; the flower opens as a standard lotus petal, with a round and neat central column, the three outer petals with contracted bases and flared angles, a large round lip hanging down with a slight curl, large and vivid colored blocks, and an overall effect of striking red-green contrast. This variety is robust and easy to grow, preferring coarse and loose potting medium, and likes sunlight; when cultivated properly it has a relatively high rate of producing new shoots. Due to improper cultivation in the early period after discovery, this variety suffered fertilizer damage, but after many years of careful cultivation by orchid enthusiasts in Honghe, the plants have recovered and rebloomed in 2010, though the number of plants is rather small. It was purchased with flowers in 2006, and rebloomed stably in 2010. In 2010 it won the Gold Award at the Kunming City Orchid Exhibition in Yunnan Province and the Special Gold Award at the Wenshan Prefecture Orchid Exhibition in Yunnan Province, and was approved for registration in 2010.
