Central finance provides 1.2 billion yuan to support livestock and poultry improved breeding stock subsidies
To support raising the level of improved breeding stock in animal husbandry and promote the sustained and healthy development of the livestock industry, in 2015 the central finance, through the modern agricultural production development fund, allocated 1.2 billion yuan to support the livestock and poultry improved breeding stock subsidy work, encouraging breeders to purchase improved frozen semen and breeding sires for livestock breed improvement. In 2015, while continuing to implement subsidies for improved breeding stock of pigs, dairy cattle, beef cattle, sheep and yaks, the central finance explored a pilot subsidy for dairy cattle embryos.
Since the central finance began implementing the livestock and poultry improved breeding stock subsidy policy in 2006, support has continuously increased. As of 2015, a cumulative total of 8.95 billion yuan had been allocated, greatly mobilizing the enthusiasm of large numbers of farms and households, especially backyard farmers, to purchase and use improved breeding stock, accelerating the popularization and promotion of improved livestock and poultry breeds, and effectively raising livestock production levels and the quality of livestock products.
