The plant height is about 50CM, leaf width is generally about 0.5-0.7CM, each plant has 5-6 leaves, semi-upright, leaf color is light green, leaf texture is relatively fine and soft, with obvious serrated edges; young seedlings are green-yellow with variegation; as the plant matures the variegation gradually fades. The flowering period is around February each year, the scape height is about 35CM, semi-emergent above the foliage; each scape bears 1 flower, flat shoulders, the color is persimmon red with green stripes.
At the beginning of this century it was discovered in Mingjiu at the border between Mile County, Honghe Prefecture, Yunnan Province and Wenshan Prefecture (it is said that famous Doubanlan varieties such as Jiuzhou Hongmei and Xiaolin Xingdie also originated here). There were 5 plants. Honghe orchid grower Ma Zhonghua purchased it from a mountain villager for 900 yuan, and Honghe Mengzi orchid grower Wu Zhisheng then bought it for 3,600 yuan. At that time the flower had not yet opened, and it only had a flower bud 1 cun tall. Mr. Wu saw that its leaves had variegation and believed it could produce a flower with artistic qualities, so he bought it.
This variety is robust and easy to grow, with relatively strong resistance to adverse conditions; if cultivated and managed properly, the leaves will not develop scorch marks or spots; the propagation rate is relatively high, generally 1:1, and with proper cultivation it can reach 1:3.
