Taiji Shengmei is a variety of Cymbidium faberi (Douban orchid), originating from Honghe Prefecture, Yunnan Province. When it was first collected from the wild in 2000, there was only one seedling. Its leaves are upright with a thick, hard texture, and the leaves of strong plants grow to about 60cm long; the flower is a red-flowered plain-centered plum petal, and after blooming it gradually develops a golden-red color on the plant, with the flower color becoming redder the longer it blooms, at first glance looking very much like Jiuzhou Hongmei.

Taiji Shengmei combines a color-changing red flower, a plain flower, and plum petals all in one. It is an auspicious and festive, very elegant and beautiful flower among the color-changing red-flowered Cymbidium faberi varieties, and is the most representative plain-flowered color-changing red plum of Cymbidium faberi in Yunnan Province and even in the entire orchid world; it is absolutely unique even among all orchid species! When it first opens it is tender green-yellow, and after three or four days it slowly turns into a red flower. The flower holds its form extremely well and will not revert, and the leaf texture is upright and firm, not easily bending.
