Introduction to the Characteristics and Cultivation Points of the Yunyipin Cymbidium tortisepalum Variety
Yunyipin is a broad-leaved Cymbidium tortisepalum (Lianban orchid) from Yunnan. It was collected from the wild in the early 1990s. When it first bloomed, its petals had a shallow pouch with a white tip, and the outer petals were short, round, and tightly edged, so it was called "Plum-shaped Lianban Su" (a white-lipped plum-form Lianban). After reblooming, the shallow pouch of the petals had no white tip, meaning there was no staminization, so it might be called a "Guangzhong Shuixian" (official-type narcissus form). It bears 2-3 flowers, with a well-formed large flower shape, emerald green, later turning...
The flower form is a standard lotus-petal Su, with petals and flower stalk in jasper green, and a large round lip. The flower posture is dignified, pale green like smoke. This flower has been out of the wild for many years and has always had mycelial disease; new shoots easily become stagnant and it is very difficult for it to grow normally. In addition, the original owner refused to give it up, hoping it would rebloom as a "Guangzhong" form, so it has been like a beauty in the cold palace, and its blooming is even harder to see.
