The pilot project for potato staple food products and industrial development is being promoted by the Ministry of Agriculture
This website news On July 8, the Ministry of Agriculture's meeting on advancing and implementing the pilot project for potato staple food products and industrial development was held at the Institute of Food Science and Technology of the Chinese Academy of Agricultural Sciences.
The meeting reported on the relevant content and requirements of the “potato staple food products and industrial development pilot” project, introduced the project's establishment background, implementation scope, implementing entities, and subsidy standards, and arranged the key pilot work for the provinces. Pan Wenbo pointed out that the Ministry of Agriculture attaches great importance to potato staple food products and industrial development, treating it as a major measure to promote farmers' income growth. Yu Xinrong, Executive Vice Minister of Agriculture, personally supervised and promoted its implementation. As one of the project's undertaking units, the Institute of Food Science and Technology has made outstanding contributions in the research and development of staple food product processing technology. Following the approach of “nutrition guides consumption, consumption guides production,” in order to scientifically guide staple food consumption and improve the level of nutrition and health, the central government arranged 100 million yuan in 2015 from the “agricultural product preliminary processing project” specifically for the pilot project of potato staple food products and industrial development, fully reflecting the central government's attention to this work. He hopes that each pilot province (region) will actively advance this work, determine the specific responsible department, promptly formulate detailed plans, select good enterprises to specifically undertake it, determine the specific products for potato staple food processing, determine the specific standards for government subsidies, clarify the main consumers of the products, select technical support units, and at the same time ensure food quality and safety and the safety of fund supervision. Pan Wenbo stated that during the pilot process, pilot provinces are encouraged to innovate ideas, accumulate experience, and seek practical results.
Dai Xiaofeng, Director of the Institute of Food Science and Technology, gave the attending representatives a special report titled “The Essence of Modern Agricultural Nutrition and Health and the Characteristics of Wealth.” He pointed out that the essence of modern agriculture is to develop the agricultural product processing industry. The agricultural product processing industry has already become a foundational and strategic pillar industry of the national economy, will usher in a golden period of rapid development, a period of strategic opportunity, and a critical period, and will become a nutrition industry and strategic emerging industry that creates social wealth. When per capita GDP reaches ten thousand US dollars, the public's food consumption trend will inevitably shift from initially satisfying food and clothing to focusing on eating nutrition and eating healthily. The all-nutrition concept advocated by potato staple food products is a pioneer trial for the development of the nutrition and health industry. He emphasized that potato staple food products and industrial development conform to the laws of economic and social development, are a national strategy to meet the people's nutrition and health needs, and are a strategic emerging industry that changes the people's nutritional dietary structure, optimizes the planting structure, improves agricultural efficiency, increases farmers' income, alleviates pressure on resources, and achieves sustainable agricultural development. He hopes that the attending representatives from the provinces (regions) will seize the strategic opportunity, ride the momentum, accelerate the process of potato staple food industrialization development, strengthen technology promotion and demonstration, and strictly control product quality standards and quality. He stated that the Institute of Food Science and Technology, as a national team in the innovation project, has made breakthrough progress in key technologies for potato staple food product processing and will actively strengthen cooperation with each province (region) to provide strong technical support and services.
The meeting was chaired by Pan Wenbo, Deputy Director of the Department of Crop Production Management. Representatives from relevant departments of 9 pilot provinces (regions)-Hebei, Inner Mongolia, Jiangxi, Hubei, Sichuan, Guizhou, Gansu, and Ningxia-participated. Representatives from each pilot province and city discussed how to refine and implement the plan for the pilot project of potato staple food products and industrial development, focusing on lively discussions around project fund allocation channels and supervision, selection of enterprises and product types, food safety and product marketing strategies, and technical support and research and development.
The attending representatives also participated in the Institute of Food Science and Technology's potato staple food product tasting event, and visited the Ministry of Agriculture's Comprehensive Key Laboratory of Agricultural Product Processing, the National Agricultural Product Processing Technology Research and Development Center, and the Ministry of Agriculture's Agricultural Product Processing Quality and Safety Risk Assessment Laboratory.
