Vice Minister of Agriculture Yu Kangzhen Stresses Seizing Opportunities During Inspection in Anhui
July 8, Vice Minister of Agriculture Yu Kangzhen conducted a special inspection on the development of grass-based livestock farming in Bengbu, Anhui. He stressed that accelerating the development of grass-based livestock farming is both an important entry point for adjusting the planting structure and an important lever for optimizing the livestock structure; it is both a practical path for combining farming and animal husbandry and a strategic choice for promoting sustainable agricultural development. It is necessary to earnestly implement the spirit of the National Modern Animal Husbandry Construction Work Conference, work with real effort, strive for success, and solidly advance the livestock industry to take the lead in achieving modernization in the process of modern agricultural construction.
When Yu Kangzhen inspected dairy cattle breeding and dairy product processing at the Bengbu farm of Modern Farming Co., Ltd., he fully affirmed the company's integrated operation model of planting, breeding and processing. He pointed out that developing the entire industry chain is of great significance for solving the difficulties in China's livestock development, helping to straighten out the benefit-linking mechanism, strengthen quality and safety control of livestock products, and promote sustainable development of the livestock industry. All localities should seize the favorable opportunity of “transforming the development mode and adjusting the structure”, carry out pilot demonstrations, and accelerate the development of grass-based livestock farming; they should pay attention to the comprehensive utilization of breeding waste and strive to achieve the organic unity of livestock development and ecological environmental protection.
Afterwards, Yu Kangzhen went to Qiushi Grass Industry Company, where he inspected alfalfa harvesting and wrapped silage on site. Qiushi Grass Industry has transferred 100,000 mu of land in total to grow high-quality forage, with average alfalfa hay yield of about 1 ton per mu, achieving fully mechanized operations, wrapped alfalfa silage and biogas slurry return to fields, innovating a high-quality forage planting model, breaking the bottleneck of the shortage of high-quality forage for dairy development, and becoming a model of combining planting and breeding with circular development. He pointed out that implementing grain-to-feed conversion and concentrated large-scale operation through land transfer not only improves land output efficiency, but also absorbs a large amount of labor and solves employment. When he saw the domestically produced alfalfa baling machinery operating efficiently, he said happily that we should increase research, development and promotion efforts and quickly raise the level of domestically produced livestock machinery.
During the inspection, Yu Kangzhen paid great attention to the quality and safety of livestock products. When holding discussions and exchanges with heads of Modern Farming Group and the Guzhen one-hundred-million broiler industry project, he especially stressed that the safety of livestock products is no small matter and must never be treated lightly; a food safety incident can bring down a company and crush an entire industry, and at all times we must keep the string of livestock product safety taut. He admonished enterprises that safe livestock products are first and foremost produced, and that they should further enhance their sense of social responsibility, strictly control the source of production with the requirements of the “four strictnesses”, and ensure the quality and safety of livestock products.
