In 2015, the national total summer grain output reached 14.1066 million tons
In the first half of the year, despite the sustained pressure of slowing growth in the national economy, good news came once again from agricultural and rural development: China's summer grain production achieved a national total summer grain output of 14.1066 million tons, an increase of 447.0 thousand tons over 2014, up 3.3%.
From an industry perspective, the 2015 summer grain increase benefited from both an expansion in area and higher yields per unit area. In 2015, the national summer grain sown area was 27,692.3 thousand hectares, an increase of 110.7 thousand hectares over 2014, up 0.4%; the increase in sown area added 548 thousand tons to output, contributing 12.3% of the increase. In 2015, the national summer grain yield per hectare reached 5,094.0 kg, an increase of 141.6 kg per hectare over the previous year, up 2.9%; the increase in yield per unit area added 3.922 million tons to output, contributing 87.7% of the increase.
From the perspective of external conditions for the industry: first, the state continued to implement the minimum purchase price policy in the main wheat-producing areas, and in the autumn of 2014 formulated and announced the 2015 minimum purchase price for wheat, which played an important role in stabilizing the wheat sown area. Second, the central government continued to increase support for strengthening agriculture and benefiting farmers, promptly allocating funds for various subsidies such as the 2015 direct grain subsidy and improved seed subsidy. Third, the sown area structure underwent relatively large adjustments. This was mainly because the main summer grain-producing areas reduced the planted area of cotton and summer-harvested rapeseed, and increased the planting of wheat and other summer grains.
