Dapin Die was dug from the mountains in the early 1990s by Lu Jianjun, the "King of Ruidie" from Zhoushan. It came down from the mountains together with Huifeng and several other Ruidie orchids, but at first it was not grown well; only in recent years was it cultivated again and brought back into bloom. It was first called Dalu Ruidie, and also had names such as Ruigi (debuted at the National Orchid Exhibition in Wenzhou).
