The Jiuhua Hongsu plant is medium-short in type, with leaves that mix semi-pendulous and slanted-upright postures, fine and supple leaf texture, and leaf length of 30 to 40 cm. The flowers open with a single-character shoulder (flat, level shoulders), slender flower stalks, wick-like stems, and a sparse, well-spaced arrangement, lively and elegant. The lip is entirely red down to the base, with the lip papillae bright red and velvety, fully red on both front and back, with brilliant, bright color and strong contrast. When this plant was collected it already carried obvious crystal spot variegation, with stable traits, scattered like stars, resembling snowflakes dancing across the sky, delightful to the eye; some orchid enthusiasts call it snowflake spot, and this crystal spot is an important anti-counterfeiting marker of Jiuhua Hongsu. To date, "Jiuhua Hongsu" is the only dual-art variety among red Cymbidium (Hui Lan) varieties.
