"Guoxiang Su" is a suxin (plain-heart) orchid with the delicate fragrance of Chinese cymbidium, dug up and named by the digger himself, found in Siming Mountain, a very rare suxin, with the petals forming a hood and not splitting apart. This flower was dug up on the seventh day of the first lunar month this year at his mother-in-law's home (Siming Mountain). At the time, most of the relatives had already left, and he was very bored at home. His brother-in-law asked whether they should go up the mountain for a walk, and since...
On February 15 and 16, 2014, the two-day Second Luzhou Orchid Trade Fair, organized by the Luzhou Orchid Association, was held at the Luzhou Commercial Pedestrian Street. Orchid enthusiasts from various cities within the province as well as from Japan and South Korea gathered here to discuss "orchid matters" together. In the end, a pot of a crystal red suxin flower named "Sun, Moon and Stars" was taken away by Kim Kwang-sik, chairman of the Korean Orchid Chamber of Commerce, for 120,000 yuan, becoming the orchid with the highest transaction price at this trade fair.

At the trade fair site, in addition to local orchid enthusiasts, orchid friends from Chengdu, Wenjiang, Zigong and other places were also drawn to attend, and there were even orchid friends from countries such as South Korea and Japan who came from afar. There was also a relatively large variety of orchids, with over a thousand varieties including Banqiao Yimo, Zhonghua Hongsu, and Xiangyu Caihong, with prices ranging from several hundred yuan to tens of thousands of yuan.

At the trade fair, Ms. Zhou, an orchid shop owner from Wenjiang, brought a top-grade red suxin. Many knowledgeable orchid friends were immediately drawn to this pot of orchids as soon as they saw it. However, Ms. Zhou only let everyone admire it and was not selling it. "Before coming, I had already agreed with friends that we would all grow this pot of red suxin together and not sell it. I just brought it over for everyone to admire," said Ms. Zhou.

However, this pot of orchids was valued by a senior orchid enthusiast, who offered 30,000 yuan wanting to buy it. Ms. Zhou insisted on not selling, and the other party raised the price to 32,000 yuan and even said he would go withdraw the money right away, but Ms. Zhou still remained unmoved. In the end, the orchid enthusiast, unable to stop himself, had no choice but to break off a flower and take one of the blossoms with him. "After propagating it, greater economic benefits can be obtained, so I do not plan to sell it," Ms. Zhou explained.

The most precious flower at this trade fair was a pot of the crystal red suxin orchid "Sun, Moon and Stars." According to the vendor, this pot of "Sun, Moon and Stars" is a top-grade new variety. The flower's colors are vivid, the petal shape is dignified and elegant, and the fragrance is relatively strong, so it is a darling of the market. In the end, after repeated bargaining, "Sun, Moon and Stars" was bought by Kim Kwang-sik, chairman of the Korean Orchid Chamber of Commerce, for 120,000 yuan, becoming the most expensive orchid sold at this trade fair.

Trade Fair Official: Want to Hold a National Orchid Exhibition in Luzhou

Why did the trade fair attract so many guests who came from afar? Mr. Zhong, an orchid enthusiast from Mianyang, told reporters that he had already come to Luzhou to attend orchid fairs seven or eight times, and this time he also brought a few pots of orchids. "This platform is good. What we value is exchanging experience with orchid friends. We do not care about really selling a few pots, and maybe we even bought a few pots to take back," said Mr. Zhong. In the past, orchids were a "luxury" that only a few people could afford to grow. But with the improvement of people's living standards, orchids have entered thousands of households. "There are new discoveries every time, and this time I saw many top-grade orchids again."

It is understood that the transaction volume during the two days of the trade fair reached two to three million. Regarding this trade fair, Zeng Yi, executive vice chairman of the Luzhou Orchid Association, said: "Ornamental stones, fine liquor, and orchids are the three treasures of Luzhou. The next step for Luzhou is to build a 'Three Treasures culture.' Bringing in experts from Japan and South Korea for this small trade fair is precisely to promote orchids outward." Zeng Yi said that in the future, Luzhou Commercial Pedestrian Street will be built into a platform for orchid enthusiast exchanges, and on the Saturday of the first week of every month, an exchange meeting will be held here. "We hope that a 'Three Treasures culture' will gradually take shape in Luzhou." Zeng Yi added that the next plan of the Luzhou Orchid Association is to hold a provincial-level orchid exhibition event in Luzhou. And they will strive to hold a national orchid exhibition within five years.
