At the press conference, the mascot of this year's Orchid Expo, "Zhongzhong," made its debut. "Zhongzhong" is a stylized anthropomorphic design based on the Chinese orchid (Cymbidium), with open arms symbolizing the people of Zhengzhou welcoming guests from all directions.
The China Orchid Expo is the largest, highest-level and most influential national orchid event in China, held once a year, aiming to promote the application of new orchid technologies, new achievements and new equipment through orchid displays, trading and seminars, and to advance the comprehensive development of China's orchid industry. According to reports, the theme of this year's Orchid Expo is "Orchid Fragrance in the Green City, Beautiful Zhengzhou," hosted by the Orchid Branch of the China Flower Association, the Provincial Forestry Department, the Provincial Flower Association and the Zhengzhou Municipal Government. It is scheduled to be held from April 1 to 3 at Zhengzhou China Greening Expo Park, with the exhibition period extending to May 3.
Compared with previous editions, this year's Orchid Expo has two major features: First, the most varieties. Elegant Chinese orchids (Cymbidium) and charming tropical orchids will share the stage together for the first time. It is expected that more than a thousand exhibitors from home and abroad will participate, with over 3,500 pots of orchids on display. Second, zoned displays. In addition to the flower exhibition, seven major zones have been set up, including a science popularization exhibition hall, an enterprise exhibition hall and a calligraphy and painting creation area.
Why did this grand orchid event land in Zhengzhou? According to Zhou Ming, deputy secretary-general of the Zhengzhou Municipal Government, the orchid culture in our province has a long history, and places such as Nanyang and Xinyang are important places of origin for Chinese orchids (Cymbidium); Zhengzhou's position as a distribution center for "southern flowers shipped north and eastern flowers shipped west" is increasingly prominent, and the flower industry, including orchids, is developing rapidly in our province, attracting the attention of flower events.
