Many flower lovers report that the Oncidium is hard to grow and hard to rebloom. In fact, as long as you understand its habits, the Oncidium is still quite easy to grow. The Oncidium is native to tropical rainforests, and its flowers come in a variety of colors with a long blooming period, lasting more than two months from the first flower to the last. The flower shape is beautiful, like a little girl dancing, hence the name “dancing orchid”.

The key cultivation points for the Oncidium are:

1. Cultivation materials: in hot and humid places, use tree fern, boards or pots made from non-oily hardwood of broadleaf trees, etc., while in dry climates, use sphagnum moss, fern roots, moss, etc., planted in porous pots.

2. Daily management: the Oncidium is generally not very demanding about its environment, but the winter temperature should not be lower than 15°C, and the air humidity should be around 80% in all four seasons. In spring, summer and autumn it needs a semi-shaded environment; in winter it can be given plenty of sunlight, but never expose it to the scorching sun of midsummer.

The Oncidium is mostly propagated by division. Generally, do not water immediately after dividing; when it is slightly dry, spray some water on the leaves, wait until new roots grow and then water, then spray some balanced fertilizer, but the concentration must not be too high, generally 0.6% to 0.8%. During care, do not water too much, as this easily causes root rot, and pay attention to ventilation and light. If there are diseased plants, they should be destroyed in time and sprayed with some fungicide. During the flowering period, the temperature and humidity should not be too high or too low, as this will affect the lifespan of the flowers, shorten the blooming period, and even cause bud drop or early withering.
