The coffee orchid is an orchid with an intense fragrance. Many flower enthusiasts are especially obsessed with its creamy chocolate scent, but once they buy one they don't know how to grow a coffee orchid. In fact, the coffee orchid is the Maxillaria variabilis, and its cultivation method is not particularly complicated.

The coffee orchid generally blooms in late spring and early summer, with each pseudobulb producing 2-3 flowers. It likes a hot and humid climate, and needs sufficient sunlight. In spring, autumn and winter the sunlight is milder, so it can take full sun; in summer, move it to a spot with partial sun or avoid the strong direct light at noon, and you can also use a shade net to block part of the light.

For the coffee orchid's growing medium, sphagnum moss is best because it holds water well. Water it when the sphagnum moss is half dry. When it lacks water, the pseudobulbs will shrivel and develop wrinkles, but they will recover as soon as it is watered again. Every spring and summer it will sprout new shoots from the base of the pseudobulbs, growing extremely fast, so it is recommended to repot it into a larger pot as needed; besides holding moisture better, the pot will also not tip over because the top is heavy and the bottom is light.

The coffee orchid is mainly propagated by division, preferably in spring and summer. Each unit of 3-5 bulbs can be planted separately into a pot.
