A famous variety of Yunnan fragrant Douban orchid, it is a natural cross between Cymbidium goeringii and Cymbidium faberi var., and also an extremely beautiful flower among the color-changing red flowers of fragrant Douban orchids. Its color is the red of Douban Orchid, or to be precise, orange-red; when it first opens the flower is tender yellow, and once open it has already turned red. Generally, one scape bears two flowers, and the flowers stand above the leaves, hence the name Hongshuangxi (Red Double Happiness). This plant has a fragrance like the strong scent of Cymbidium goeringii; the flower's form is that of Cymbidium goeringii, and its leaves are also the broad leaves of Cymbidium goeringii. It is one of the most representative fragrant Douban orchids in Yunnan Province, has won major awards many times at numerous orchid exhibitions, and is a typical representative of color-changing flowers among fragrant Douban orchids, with excellent stability. Because of its outstanding traits, this flower has in recent years been fervently sought after by orchid growers at home and abroad, and is one of the most popular varieties among Yunnan fragrant Douban orchids.
According to preliminary verification, this flower was collected in Luoping County in eastern Yunnan, though further verification is needed. After being collected it was purchased and cultivated by an orchid enthusiast from Mile in Honghe Prefecture, Yunnan, and it has been widely loved by Yunnan orchid enthusiasts. Because it has the characteristics of both Douban and Cymbidium goeringii, it is widely regarded here in Yunnan as a fragrant Douban orchid; in fact, judging by the form of the flower and leaves, it is more practical to classify it as Cymbidium goeringii. The propagation rate of Hongshuangxi is generally 1:1, similar to that of Cymbidium goeringii, and its flowering rate is also relatively high.
