To the west of Tiananmen in Beijing lies a garden with a century of history - Zhongshan Park. Every year during the Spring Festival, a Cymbidium goeringii orchid exhibition is held here. In appreciating Cymbidium goeringii, differences in the shapes of petals and sepals give rise to classifications of petal forms such as lotus petal, plum petal, and narcissus petal. At the end of October each year, to mid-to-upper November, for 5 consecutive days, when the nighttime minimum ambient temperature is around 5 degrees Celsius, Master Fu and his apprentices move the Cymbidium goeringii into the greenhouse to let them enter dormancy smoothly. After 1-2 months of vernalization, when there are still 20-30 days until the Cymbidium goeringii orchid exhibition, Master Fu uses the method of gradually raising the temperature to force the Cymbidium goeringii to bloom. Every year in February, Master Fu and his apprentices also carry out division and repotting of the Cymbidium goeringii. By the end of March and mid-to-upper April of the following year, when the nighttime minimum ambient temperature outdoors has risen to 5 degrees Celsius for 5 consecutive days, Master Fu and his apprentices begin moving these Cymbidium goeringii outdoors, entering the management stage of the Cymbidium goeringii growth period. The growth period of Cymbidium goeringii is mainly the stage of leaf bud and new shoot growth and flower bud differentiation, and watering, fertilizing, and disease prevention and control must be done well. In this episode of the program, we will introduce to our vast audience friends the appreciation and care work of this Cymbidium goeringii.
