A new plum-petal flower discovered in Hunan in 2005, first exhibited at the Anhui Hefei Orchid Exhibition in 2008, and appeared again at the Zhejiang Orchid Exhibition in 2009! The Cymbidium goeringii from Yongzhou has a taller plant type than those from Jiangsu and Zhejiang, relatively more rugged and graceful. In the spring of 2006, the predecessor of this Cymbidium goeringii, 'Mitang Mei', was found by an old farmer, at that time 3 seedlings with a few old pseudobulbs; when first collected from the wild the flowers had wilted, and one flower had already faded. It was purchased from an orchid farmer in Yongzhou by an orchid enthusiast surnamed Chen from Hunan and cultivated, then transferred at several hundred yuan per plant to Mr. Ye, a senior fellow at Zhejiang Donghai Orchid Garden, for cultivation. Thus, the Cymbidium goeringii 'Mitang Mei' found its way to other provinces. It was named 'Mitang Mei' by the breeder Mr. Chen of Donghai Orchid Garden, who holds exclusive ownership.

The Cymbidium goeringii 'Mitang Mei' in particularly vigorous condition has 7 leaves, with the main vein transparent and bright, secondary veins protruding outward, marginal teeth arranged in orderly fashion, and leaf texture glutinous, moist and thick, forming a V shape. Each plant has 5 to 6 leaves. Leaf length 25---35 cm, leaf width 0.8---1.5 cm. As for the naming of the Cymbidium goeringii 'Mitang Mei', we do not know what the recipient intended, and we privately speculate that at the time, in the mind of Mr. Chen of Donghai Orchid Garden, it was to collect a relatively high-grade plum-petal Cymbidium goeringii from wild-collected plants. After the 'Mitang Mei' bloomed in the spring of 2008, the so-called 'Mitang' -- the character Mi, when broken apart, is eighty-eight, which in practical terms carries the concept of a good number, praying for the vigorous growth of 'Mitang Mei'; moreover, 'Mitang' is also called 'malt sugar', and in childhood, whenever we smelled the fragrance of malt sugar, we knew the Spring Festival was not far away. This shows how the owner, having fortunately acquired this plant, hoped for it to bloom in the warm spring, watching the orchid fragrance with a sweet heart, and how much affection he held for 'Mitang Mei'!

The Cymbidium goeringii 'Mitang Mei' has bloomed twice, with stable flower form, unchanging shape even after long blooming, and excellent flower retention. Based on the plum-petal type of traditional petal-type theory, the 'Mitang Mei' has basically achieved the desired form, texture, color, fragrance, spirit and charm. The flower color and flower quality are dignified, the texture fine and glutinous, emerald green and glossy, with a sense of transparency, giving a feeling of relaxation and joy to the viewer. When the seedlings are particularly vigorous, the constricted base of the three outer petals and the leech-marked main veins of the petals turn emerald green, with beautiful linear form, upright and elegant, very lovely. The current number of seedlings is around 20. In 2008 it first won the Silver Award at the Anhui Hefei Orchid Exhibition, the following year it appeared again at the Zhejiang Orchid Exhibition, and in 2012 it won the Excellence Award at the Anhui Orchid Exhibition again. The essence, energy and spirit of the Cymbidium goeringii 'Mitang Mei' flower, with its naturally perfect beauty, has opened the hearts of orchid enthusiasts, enticing seekers of beauty to stand before its pot, and it is greatly favored by orchid viewers.
