How to divide orchids properly? These methods and techniques you need to master
Fujian Shuixiansu is an old variety from the Qing Dynasty era, belonging to the hard-leaf four-season orchid, with tall leaves, fairly good flower substance, flowers that look quite pleasing, and a relatively strong fragrance. Now there is also a Zhizusu that is quite similar to this one. Nowadays, orchid growers do not record the origin of their flowers, and some do not even know where their own came from, so the phenomenon of random naming can be seen everywhere! Also....
Everyone knows that dividing seedlings can increase the germination rate, but not all seedling conditions are suitable for dividing to increase production. Below I will share a set of data from my seedling division with everyone, hoping orchid friends can draw inspiration from it!
Some orchid friends believe that dividing seedlings will definitely yield more seedlings by the end of the year than not dividing, but this is actually not absolute. For orchid plants that are not strong seedlings, dividing is not necessarily better than not dividing. Let me talk about a set of data from my experiment. They were all similar 4-seedling plants, one was not divided, and one was divided into 2 groups. Of the 2 divided groups, one produced 2 shoots and one produced 1 shoot. The undivided 4 seedlings produced 2 shoots, but after 3 months, both seedlings of the undivided group had grown to 9-part seedlings and each produced another shoot, while of the two divided groups, one grew to 7-part seedlings, and the other group did not even grow into 5-part seedlings. This shows that dividing seedlings affected growth. Although dividing seedlings can produce more shoots, the shoots produced are weak and grow slowly!
To summarize, what kind of seedlings are not suitable for dividing and how to divide
1. Newly arrived seedlings are not suitable for dividing. At this time, the seedlings have not adapted to your local environment, and dividing them easily causes rot!
2. Weak seedlings are not suitable for dividing. After weak seedlings are divided, what comes later are all toothpick grass, growing slowly!
3. When dividing seedlings, choose ones with good roots to divide. Those with poor roots must never be divided!
4. When dividing seedlings, it is best to divide them into groups of 2 seedlings, and choose to do it in late September!
5. Do not fertilize newly divided seedlings for half a year!
