What kind of orchid is Taibai Huilan?

Lujiang orchid enthusiasts Tian Kesi (Shan Gao Shui Yuan) and Tian Keran (Tianran Lanyuan) also have this variety, and it produced flower buds; when it bloomed, it was sent to the Anhui Huilan Exhibition for display and named after the title of a great poet of the Tang Dynasty: Taibai. The color is white as paper, the lip markings are bright red, the petals stay closed and do not open; white flowers are few, and those that can remain stable are even fewer. This flower has been observed in bloom for several years, stable year after year; the color is white with a rosy tint showing through, and the contrast between the petals and the lip coating is especially beautiful. Even after being open a long time, the petals do not open up and the color does not change, and the new shoots carry white spot variegation, bright at first and then dull, truly a rare and fine colored flower! White flowers all become whiter the longer they bloom, going through a color-changing process. Taibai: the new grass emerges yellow, which is the currently popular color, the so-called yellow grass (called deformed grass in some places), bright at first and then dull, turning green normally as it grows; the grass is medium-sized, slanting and drooping, with good leaf quality and fine leaf shape. The five petals have form, and the bloom is even better when the grass is strong; the stem is slender while the flower is large, the two petals stay closed, and the red spots on the lip are extraordinarily gorgeous. The color is like moist jade, becoming whiter the longer it opens, and the petal color and lip markings set each other off well; seen up close or from afar, it is elegant and ethereal.

It won a gold award at the Anhui Huilan Exhibition, which was truly well deserved. Later it won another gold in Rizhao, Shandong.
