Introduction to the Zhaojun Jianlan (Cymbidium ensifolium) Variety and Key Care Points

A new Four Seasons Orchid (Cymbidium ensifolium) variety discovered in Guilin, Guangxi in 2014, Wenguiyuanselected and named it.Water-mark su (plain flower), jade-like flower color, lotus-type arched and embracing petals, excellent flower form retention!

In August 2015, Lancai and two friends visited Mr. Li, owner of Tongcheng young orchid grower Wenguiyuan, and it happened that on that day Mr. Li had collected a clump of Four Seasons Orchid su flowers from the mountain, six wild-collected seedlings, with leaves about 60cm long and about 1.5cm wide, one spike with three flowers about 20cm tall, the flower shape quite similar to [Datang Gongfen], but with the different characteristic of a water-red lip; observing that the flowers had excellent both form and retention, they asked the price, and the garden owner quoted several thousand yuan per seedling; at the time they thought the wild-collected grass had leaves too long and the flower spike too short, and fearing the flowers would not be stable in future bloomings, they gave it up. In August 2016 during the flowering season, they again saw this su flower blooming at Wenguiyuan; after domestication the leaves were about 35cm long and 1.1cm wide, the flower spike was tall and upright, rising well above the leaves, bearing four or five flowers, the flowers large, the inflorescence well-spaced, with excellent both form and retention, and the garden owner named this su variety [Zhaojun].
