How to choose Cymbidium ensifolium? Master these new selection criteria
A new plain-heart variety collected in the wild in Fujian - Jingkai Su, first flowered in 2013. Seller: Nanjing Xiangyun Orchid Co., Ltd. This flower has medium-length, arching and drooping leaves with blunt rounded leaf tips, acceptable leaf texture and dark green leaf color, an airy and well-spaced flower spike, flowers in a white glutinous crystal quality with a rimmed edge, an elegant and delicate fragrance, large flowers held above the leaves, and an overall rather distinctive appearance.
After growing Cymbidium ensifolium for so many years, I have gained a new understanding of it: you cannot choose varieties based only on photos. Photos can only serve as a reference, and you must see overall effect photos. Below I will share my experience in choosing Cymbidium ensifolium with everyone.
1. Fragrance of the flower: choose varieties with a pure fragrance that can release scent for more than 2 weeks. Generally, plain-color flowers all have this characteristic.
2. Leaf shape: choose the one you like; I will not say much about it. It is best to choose a leaf shape that easily holds the flowers above the leaves and has a high leaf base.
3. Flower stem and inflorescence: this point is also very important. Choose those with a tall flower stem and an airy, well-spaced inflorescence as the best.
4. Number of flowers: choose varieties that tend to bear more than 5 flowers per stem!
5. Flower size: choose those with a flower diameter greater than 4CM as suitable.
6. Petal shape of the flower: the reason this is placed last is that Cymbidium ensifolium flowers with good petal shape are generally not large. If you like petal-shaped flowers, you can choose a narcissus-petal type with a good center and relatively large flowers.
For beginners, I recommend a good fragrant flower: Ruanjian Renhua Bai
