The reporter learned from the national agricultural meteorological bulletin released by the Central Meteorological Observatory of the China Meteorological Administration on September 6 that this week most of the southeastern part of northwest China and most of the southwest will see rainy weather, which is unfavorable for harvesting and drying mature crops. Most agricultural areas in the north will be mainly sunny, and major agricultural areas such as the northeast and northwest will have no early frost, while arid areas such as Longzhong in Gansu will see obvious precipitation, which is favorable for full grain filling of autumn-harvest crops.

Last week, the weather in most agricultural areas of the northeast improved, and light and heat conditions were suitable for grain filling of single-season rice, corn and soybean kernels. Obvious precipitation occurred in the northwest, Huang-Huai and other places, improving soil moisture and alleviating drought in some areas, which was favorable for the formation of autumn-harvest crop yields; however, precipitation was insufficient in Longzhong of Gansu and central Liaoning, and the drought continued. Eastern north China had low temperatures and little sunshine, affecting crop grain filling and maturation. The middle and lower reaches of the Yangtze River had mostly sunny weather, favorable for the formation of yields of single-season rice, corn, cotton and other crops as well as for jointing and booting of late rice. Southern Jiangnan, south China and western parts of the southwest continued to have rainy and sunless weather, adversely affecting tillering and jointing of late rice, grain filling and maturation and harvesting and drying of single-season rice and corn.

The forecast from the Central Meteorological Observatory shows that this week most of the southeastern part of northwest China and most of the southwest will see rainy weather, with some areas in western Sichuan Basin, Yunnan and Guangxi receiving 80-180 mm, with rainfall 20-60 percent more than the same period in normal years, and locally more than double. Continued rainy weather is unfavorable for grain filling, maturation, harvesting and drying of single-season rice and corn, and for tillering and field drying of late rice. From September 8-12, light to moderate rain will occur in the eastern part of northwest China and southern part of the northeast, which is favorable for improving soil moisture and promoting full grain filling of crops. Cold air activity in the northern region will be frequent, but its strength will not be strong; except for initial frost in northeastern Inner Mongolia and mountainous areas of northern Heilongjiang, most other northern areas will not have obvious initial frost, which will be favorable for grain filling and maturation of single-season rice, corn and other autumn-harvest crops.

⟦NL> In this regard, agricultural meteorology experts suggest that most northern areas will see obvious precipitation processes, and all localities should strengthen classified management of farmland to promote full grain filling of autumn-harvest crops; areas with relatively high precipitation intensity should pay attention to timely drainage and reducing waterlogging to prevent crops from staying green and maturing late. Cotton areas such as Xinjiang should seize the sunny weather to pick cotton lint in time. Autumn sowing areas should strengthen water storage to prepare for timely autumn sowing. Southern areas should strengthen water and fertilizer management of rice fields to promote grain setting and filling of single-season rice and tillering, jointing and booting and heading of late rice. The southeastern part of northwest China and the southwest have above-normal precipitation, so it is necessary to seize the intervals between rainfall to promptly harvest mature crops to prevent sprouting and mildew.
