The reporter learned from the China Meteorological Administration that the pilot work on forecasting the impact of meteorological disasters on facility agriculture will be launched in the near future at the meteorological bureaus of five provinces and municipalities: Beijing, Tianjin, Hebei, Liaoning and Shandong. Large-scale facility agriculture operators in these five provinces and municipalities will not only receive regular weather forecasts, but will also obtain forecasts of the impact that meteorological disasters bring to facility agriculture.

In the pilot provinces and municipalities, meteorological departments will, with respect to the impact of meteorological disasters on fruit and vegetable production in solar greenhouses, complete the standardization and sharing of facility agriculture microclimate observation data, and improve the meteorological disaster-triggering critical thresholds, indicator systems and forecasting techniques for different risk levels of major meteorological disasters and pests and diseases. The pilot meteorological departments will also rely on existing platforms to explore the construction of a facility agriculture meteorological service system with clearly defined division of labor at the provincial, municipal and county levels. The pilot work will last one year, and the China Meteorological Administration has formulated a detailed implementation plan to strengthen guidance for the pilot provinces and municipalities.
