Liaoning drought persists, crops in most of Northeast China growing well
Qian Shuan, chief expert at the Agrometeorological Center of the National Meteorological Center, said that at present close attention should be paid to the effects of drought in the Northwest, the autumn rain in West China, early frost in the Northwest and Northeast regions, and the cold dew wind in the South on the grain filling and maturation of autumn-harvested crops and the sowing of winter wheat and rapeseed.
September 10 to October 20 is the main period for autumn harvest and autumn sowing in China. During this period, the autumn sowing of crops such as winter wheat and rapeseed will lay the foundation for a bumper summer grain harvest next year. It is reported that since spring sowing, light, temperature and water in most parts of the country have matched well, there have been no long-lasting, large-scale agrometeorological disasters, and the growth of autumn-harvested crops is generally good at present.
As a major grain-producing area, the harvest of autumn grain crops in Northeast China has attracted much attention. Qian Shuan told reporters that soil moisture and crop growth in most of Northeast China are relatively good, and there has been no early frost recently. At present, only parts of Liaoning Province are still experiencing persistent drought, which has little impact on the total output of Northeast China.
Qian Shuan reminded that this year's autumn rain in West China shows a pattern of more in the south and less in the north, and close attention should be paid to the persistent rainy weather in the Southwest region. In these areas, single-season rice, spring corn, tobacco leaves and other crops are gradually maturing and being harvested, and mature crops should be harvested in time during breaks in the rain. In addition, some areas of Jianghan have begun harvesting single-season rice, while autumn harvest in most parts of the north has not yet started.
⟦NL> As the national agrometeorological service for autumn harvest and autumn sowing kicks off, agrometeorological services for autumn harvest and autumn sowing in various grain-producing areas will also be launched one after another. The meteorological department of Hubei Province will focus on providing agrometeorological services for the suitable harvest period of corn, mid-season rice and cotton and the suitable sowing period of rapeseed. Earlier, the provincial meteorological bureau, together with the provincial department of agriculture and other departments, carried out a survey of autumn grain yields. Because climatic conditions this year are relatively good and the planted area of autumn grain crops has increased, the per-unit yield and total output of autumn grain crops in Hubei Province are expected to increase simultaneously. Autumn grain crops in Shandong Province will begin to be harvested at the end of September and the beginning of October, and the meteorological department will launch agrometeorological services for autumn harvest and autumn sowing in late September. From late May to July this year, Shandong Province encountered drought, but large-scale rainfall at the end of June and rainfall from late July to early August alleviated the drought to varying degrees, and the current local soil moisture is also favorable for the growth of autumn grain crops.
