National autumn harvest and autumn planting meteorological service officially launched in 2015
The reporter learned from the China Meteorological Administration that the 2015 national autumn harvest and autumn planting meteorological service was officially launched on September 11. It is reported that during the autumn harvest and autumn planting period, the "National Autumn Harvest and Autumn Planting Meteorological Service Special Report" produced by the China Meteorological Administration will be sent to departments such as the National Development and Reform Commission, the Ministry of Agriculture, the National Bureau of Statistics, and the State Administration of Grain, to provide services for the autumn harvest and autumn planting work.
Qian Shuan, chief expert of the Agrometeorological Center of the National Meteorological Center, said that at present, close attention should be paid to the effects of drought in northwest China, the autumn rain in west China, early frost in the northwest and northeast regions, and the cold dew wind in the south on the grain-filling and maturation of autumn-harvested crops and the sowing of winter wheat and rapeseed.
September 10 to October 20 is the main period for autumn harvest and autumn planting in China. During this period, the autumn planting of crops such as winter wheat and rapeseed will lay the foundation for next year's summer grain harvest. It is reported that since spring sowing, light, temperature and water in most parts of the country have been well matched, with no long-lasting, large-scale agrometeorological disasters, and autumn-harvested crops are currently generally growing well.
As a major grain-producing area, the harvest of autumn grain crops in the northeast region has attracted much attention. Qian Shuan told the reporter that soil moisture conditions and crop growth in most of the northeast region are relatively good, and there has been no early frost recently. At present, only some areas of Liaoning Province are still experiencing persistent drought, which has little impact on the total output of the northeast region.
Qian Shuan reminded that this year's autumn rain in west China shows a pattern of more in the south and less in the north, and close attention needs to be paid to the continuous rainy weather in the southwest region. In these areas, single-season rice, spring corn, tobacco leaves and other crops are maturing and being harvested one after another, and mature crops should be harvested in a timely manner during breaks in precipitation. In addition, some areas of Jianghan have already begun harvesting single-season rice, while autumn harvest in most parts of the north has not yet begun.
It is understood that this year's autumn harvest and autumn planting meteorological service products will be released in the form of special meteorological service reports every Tuesday and Friday, and will be disseminated to the public through channels such as television and newspapers. The National Meteorological Center will promptly grasp the dynamics and latest progress of autumn harvest and autumn planting work, and propose corresponding preventive measures according to weather impacts. Since September 1, the National Meteorological Center has been monitoring early frost conditions in the northeast and northwest regions, and analyzes and assesses early frost and other conditions for the next three days at the daily national weather consultation. Once agrometeorological disasters such as continuous rainy weather, frost, and cold dew wind occur, the National Meteorological Center will issue early warnings, increase service frequency, and improve the level of refined forecasting services.
As the national autumn harvest and autumn planting meteorological service kicks off, autumn harvest and autumn planting meteorological services in various grain-producing areas will also be launched one after another. The meteorological department of Hubei Province will focus on providing meteorological services for the suitable harvest period of corn, middle-season rice and cotton and the suitable sowing period of rapeseed. Earlier, the provincial meteorological bureau had joined with the provincial department of agriculture and other departments to carry out autumn grain yield surveys. Because climatic conditions this year are relatively good and the planted area of autumn grain crops has increased, the per-unit yield and total output of autumn grain crops in Hubei Province are expected to achieve simultaneous growth. Autumn grain crops in Shandong Province will begin to be harvested in late September and early October, and the meteorological department will launch autumn harvest and autumn planting meteorological services in late September. From late May to July this year, Shandong Province encountered drought, but large-scale rainfall at the end of June and rainfall from late July to early August alleviated the drought to varying degrees, and the current local soil moisture conditions are also favorable for the growth of autumn grain crops.
