The seed industry has already entered a stage of full market competition. From 2010 to 2014, the number of seed enterprises nationwide decreased from 8,700 to 5,064, declaring that the stage of disorderly market competition has basically ended.

Improving industry concentration urgently needs to be led by mergers and reorganizations. The primary breeding target will aim at suitability for mechanization. Because rural labor costs are rising and labor is in short supply, the history of manual intensive cultivation will become a thing of the past, and varieties can only advance by continuously adapting to production development.
