Agricultural insurance premiums must not be paid in vain; do not let farmers' interests suffer
Recently, reports have emerged that over ten thousand mu of corn in Dachangchang Town, Zhongning County, Ningxia suffered drought-induced yield reduction, with crops nearly failing completely. However, the corn planting insurance that farmers had previously purchased could not obtain compensation from the insurance company. In response, the insurance company explained that there was a lack of corresponding drought weather certification, and the weather station near Dachangchang Town had been established for too short a time, with no historical data, making it impossible to issue the corresponding certification.
The original purpose of agricultural insurance is to reduce the impact of disasters on agriculture and protect farmers' income. Yet when drought actually occurs, no compensation can be obtained,
reducing agricultural insurance to a mere scrap of paper. This kind of behavior not only harms farmers' interests but also casts a shadow over the credibility of policy-based insurance. It is hoped that the local joint investigation can reach a conclusion as soon as possible, put an end to this insurance that does not insure, and not let farmers pay their premiums in vain without receiving any compensation.
⟦NL> Relevant local governments should also take this as a lesson, develop corresponding guaranteed insurance types according to regional characteristics, implement the compensation rules of policy-based agricultural insurance well, and provide adequate supporting services for agricultural insurance such as weather records, disaster assessment, and insurance compensation supervision, doing sufficient preparatory work in advance, putting an end to “risky” insurance, and not letting farmers' hope turn into disappointment.
