China's forage germplasm resources achieve innovative utilization
During the “12th Five-Year Plan” period, with the support of central government funds, the National Animal Husbandry Station worked closely with universities and research institutes to organize and carry out work on the identification and evaluation of forage germplasm resources, gene mining, germplasm creation, and sharing and utilization, effectively promoting the development of the forage seed industry.
Carry out identification and evaluation, establish an agronomic trait evaluation index system and a comprehensive resistance evaluation index system, and use the selected elite germplasm to breed 18 new varieties. Mine new genes: using RT-PCR and RACE techniques, clone 6 functional genes such as alfalfa MsSTP; using techniques such as space mutation and molecular marker-assisted selection, create 19 new germplasms with excellent comprehensive traits, such as alfalfa and stylo. Establish a sharing platform: developed the National Forage Germplasm Resources Conservation and Management System, and established an information and physical sharing service platform to provide physical and information support for forage research, teaching, production and ecological construction.
