Beijing, Tianjin and Hebei Join Forces to Create Organic Certification Demonstration Zone to Support Beijing Winter Olympics

It is understood that the quality and technical supervision departments of the three regions of Beijing, Tianjin and Hebei will strengthen exchanges and cooperation with agricultural departments, replicate and promote the experience of Yanqing County in Beijing, China, which successfully created a “National Organic Product Certification Demonstration Zone”, and take the lead in carrying out organic industry demonstration creation work in Fengning, Longhua and other places in Hebei Province. The three regions will carry out counterpart assistance and exchange cooperation in organic industry planning, technology application, demonstration zone application, brand promotion, certification supervision and other aspects, promote mature organic industry development models, form a contiguous development area of organic industry clusters, reduce agricultural non-point source pollution and the cost of ecological restoration, and improve the quality of the regional ecological environment and the capacity for sustainable development.

According to the “Beijing-Tianjin-Hebei Coordinated Development Outline” and the site planning requirements of the Beijing Winter Olympics, creating an organic industry demonstration zone in this region will develop organic characteristic circular industries in accordance with local conditions, promote the application of agricultural science and technology, drive increased agricultural income and farmers' prosperity, and explore a new model of coordinated development between regional economic development and ecological civilization.

A relevant person in charge of the Certification and Accreditation Administration of China said that in order to give play to the role of certification in transmitting trust and promoting economic development and ecological civilization construction, the Certification and Accreditation Administration of China has carried out the creation activity of “National Organic Product Certification Demonstration Zone” since 2012. At present, 37 counties (cities and districts) across the country have been approved as demonstration zones. Through the creation activity, a number of organic industry cluster development areas with distinctive characteristics, suitable conditions and standardized management have been formed, and a number of well-known organic product brands with excellent quality and reputation have been built.
