Adequate and good-quality wheat and rapeseed seed supply
Currently, the winter wheat and winter rapeseed seed market has entered its peak sales period. According to our center's monitoring of the seed market and scheduling of supply and demand, this year's autumn and winter planting wheat and rapeseed seed supply is adequate, with overall good quality. Winter wheat seed prices are level with the same period last year, while winter rapeseed seed prices have declined slightly.
I. Winter wheat
Seed supply. This year, the national winter wheat seed harvest area was 12.10 million mu, with seed production of about 5 billion kg. It is expected that this year's autumn and winter planting wheat commercial seed demand will remain stable at 3.3-3.5 billion kg, so seed supply exceeds demand. Winter wheat seed harvests in Shandong, Henan, Jiangsu and other areas were bumper, with good quality. In parts of Anhui and Hubei, due to adverse effects from harvest-period disasters that reduced production by 10% and sprouting of some seed heads, it is expected that the amount of seed transferred in from Henan, Shandong and other places this year will increase compared with previous years.
Market prices. According to data from 320 varieties and 691 valid samples in 13 provinces including Henan, Shandong, Jiangsu, Anhui, Gansu and Hebei, the average price of winter wheat seed is 4.31 yuan/kg. Affected by seed supply-demand relations and prices, retail seed market prices in major winter wheat-producing provinces rose or fell unevenly. Among them, Henan, Shandong and Hebei declined by 3%-5% year on year, Anhui and Gansu rose by about 5% year on year, Sichuan saw a relatively large increase of 9.94%, Shanxi declined by 11.71% year on year, and Jiangsu seed prices were stable. By variety, newly approved varieties had higher market prices, with an average retail price of 5.33 yuan/kg. The retail market price of seed of the leading production variety Jimai 22 declined slightly, to 4.26 yuan/kg, while the average price of seed of the exclusively operated leading variety Zhoumai 22 remained stable at 5.74 yuan/kg.
II. Winter rapeseed
⟦NL> Seed supply. This year, the national hybrid rapeseed seed production harvest area was 125,000 mu, with seed production of 9.6 million kg. Together with effective inventory of 1.8 million kg, the total seed supply is 11.4 million kg. Newly harvested conventional rapeseed seed was 5.55 million kg. Affected by the sharp drop in rapeseed purchase prices, sales in the rapeseed seed market fell significantly this year, and winter rapeseed planting area is expected to show a declining trend. At present, the total supply of hybrid and conventional rapeseed seed is 16.95 million kg. Even if the winter rapeseed planting area remains stable, this amount of seed can meet the commercial seed demand of 14 million kg.
Seed prices. According to data from 318 rapeseed varieties and 724 valid samples in 11 provinces including Hubei, Hunan, Sichuan, Jiangxi, Anhui, Guizhou, Yunnan and Jiangsu, the average price of hybrid rapeseed seed is 109.5 yuan/kg, down 3.55% year on year; the average price of conventional rapeseed seed is 19.31 yuan/kg, down 5.21% year on year. Hybrid rapeseed seed prices fell in all three major rapeseed-producing provinces of Hubei, Hunan and Sichuan, with declines of 8%-10%; the average retail price of hybrid rapeseed seed in Guizhou province was 141.54 yuan/kg, and the average price in Jiangxi province was 87.63 yuan/kg. By variety, the average retail market price of newly approved varieties was 135.26 yuan/kg. The leading production varieties Qinyou 10 and Huayouza 9 remained stable at 126.44 yuan/kg and 132.51 yuan/kg respectively, while the retail price of seed of the exclusively operated leading variety Fengyou 737 remained high, at 166.67 yuan/kg.
