Kim Jong-jin, Director of the Technical Cooperation Department of the UN Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO), said in Wuhan on the 7th that China, through the South-South cooperation program, has made major contributions to agricultural development and food security in developing countries, and expressed the hope that China will play an even greater role in the next phase of South-South cooperation.

On December 7, the "China-FAO South-South Cooperation Sustainable and Innovative Development Seminar and China Agricultural Development Policy and South-South Cooperation Training Course" was launched in Wuhan, and Kim Jong-jin made the above remarks at the opening ceremony of the event.

Kim Jong-jin said that China is a country with a large population and a major agricultural country, and that agricultural development and food security have always been a challenge; China has responded well to this challenge through its own agricultural technological development and innovation, and has provided valuable experience and solutions for developing countries around the world in tackling hunger, eradicating poverty and achieving sustainable development of agricultural resources.

China is an active participant, supporter and promoter of the FAO South-South cooperation program. According to statistics, as of the end of June 2015, through South-South cooperation projects carried out with the FAO, China had dispatched a total of 1,023 experts and technicians to 25 countries and regions in Africa, Asia, the South Pacific, Latin America and the Caribbean, accounting for 56 percent of the total number of personnel dispatched under South-South cooperation projects.

Kim Jong-jin said that these experts and technicians brought with them more than 400 agricultural technologies, including in fields such as irrigation, horticulture, animal husbandry, agriculture, crop production, agroforestry, food processing, trade in agricultural products and agricultural machinery manufacturing, making tremendous contributions to raising the level of local agricultural production in developing countries.
