From October 6-8, notable precipitation occurred across most of the Huang-Huai region and southern North China, with rainfall of 10-25 mm in southern Shanxi, most of Henan, southwestern Shandong and northern Jiangsu-Anhui, and 25-50 mm in parts of southwestern Shanxi and central Henan. This is currently the suitable sowing period for winter wheat, and this precipitation event promptly and effectively improved the 10 cm soil moisture in the above areas, with southern Shanxi and most of Henan shifting from mild moisture deficiency to suitable.

Experts suggest

1. All areas in the Huang-Huai region and southern North China should seize this favorable opportunity of improved surface soil moisture, speed up land preparation, and sow winter wheat while moisture remains, striving for full seedling emergence from a single sowing.

2. Over the next 10 days, most of the northern winter wheat region will see scarce rainfall, and soil moisture may decline again, so all areas should do a good job of preserving moisture and preventing drought; especially in central North China, the Shandong Peninsula and other areas with no recent effective precipitation, areas with persistently poor soil moisture should create moisture by irrigation before sowing as needed to ensure smooth sowing and seedling emergence of wheat.
