Chen Xiaohua stresses: make green food a booster and a pacesetter for agricultural development

On October 29, the 16th China Green Food Expo opened in Xi'an, Shaanxi. Chen Xiaohua, Vice Minister of Agriculture, stressed at the “Ecological Agriculture and Green Production” symposium held during the event that we must closely focus on the goal of making the green food industry stronger and larger and amplifying its brand effect, give equal weight to quantity, quality and efficiency, steadily advance standardized and reduced-input production, drive China's agricultural product quality to a higher level, and continuously meet the healthy consumption needs of urban and rural residents, so that green food becomes a “booster” for ecological civilization construction, a “pacesetter” for promoting the transformation of the agricultural development model, and a “weather vane” leading China's safe and high-quality agricultural product consumption.

Chen Xiaohua required that at present and for a period to come, agricultural departments at all levels and green food work agencies should focus on doing four things well:

First, earnestly safeguard the brand's credibility, in accordance with the “four strictest” requirements, be strict and tight, perform duties in accordance with the law, handle matters in accordance with regulations, and let standards speak; enhance the ability to control brand safety risks, strengthen the elimination and exit mechanism, promptly clean up substandard products, and seriously investigate and punish counterfeit products, to ensure that green food is a “clean” brand, a brand with no “impurities” and no “water.”

Second, create an “upgraded version” of industrial development, adhere to a premium product positioning, aim at the level of developed countries, further improve the standard system in light of national conditions, and always maintain the advanced nature of the standards; build another batch of high-quality, high-level standardized bases, develop a batch of benchmark enterprises that are large in scale, strong in strength and well-known in brand, promote a batch of safe, high-quality and environmentally friendly green food production materials, and cultivate a batch of green food professional marketing platforms with standardized management and novel business formats.

Third, strive to do public services well, carefully organize and carry out various types of professional training, and strengthen technical guidance and services for production enterprises and base farmers; accelerate the construction of specialized and networked information platforms to provide high-quality and efficient industry information services to the whole society; strengthen commercial services, promote production-sales matching, carry out in-depth international exchanges and cooperation, help more green food enterprises go abroad, participate in international competition, and expand export trade.

Fourth, continuously do team building well, in accordance with the “three stricts and three honests” requirements, focus on strengthening service awareness, temper work style, improve professional ability, and further enhance the work force based on management agencies, the technical force supported by testing agencies, and the expert force with the China Green Food Association as a bridge and bond.
