National autumn harvest progress nearly 90%, winter wheat sowing nearly 80%
Since the start of autumn this year, the weather in most parts of the country has been clear and sunny, with relatively high temperatures and suitable soil moisture, which is favorable for harvesting and drying autumn grain and for sowing wheat and rapeseed. All localities have earnestly implemented the spirit of the national video conference on autumn and winter planting work, seized the favorable weather, stepped up their efforts, vigorously grasped the implementation of measures, and made every effort to advance the smooth progress of autumn harvest and autumn planting. At present, the national autumn harvest is nearly 90% complete, winter wheat sowing is nearly 80% complete, and winter rapeseed sowing has exceeded 70%.
According to the agricultural situation dispatch of the Ministry of Agriculture, as of October 29, 87.5% of the national autumn grain had been harvested, 2.5 percentage points slower than the same period last year. Among this, mid-season rice (single-season rice) had been 84.8% harvested, 2.2 percentage points slower than the same period last year; corn had been 93.4% harvested, 4.3 percentage points slower than the same period last year; soybeans had been 94.5% harvested, 3.0 percentage points slower than the same period last year; double-season late rice had been 43.4% harvested, 2.9 percentage points slower than the same period last year. By region, the southwest region had completed 97.0%, the northwest region had completed 97.3%, and the five provinces of Hebei, Shandong, Henan, Jiangsu and Anhui had completed 88.1%, all flat compared with the same period last year; the northeast region had completed 91.8%, 5.5 percentage points slower than the same period last year, mainly because this year the frost period was delayed and the weather was clear and sunny, so corn was left standing in the field to dry, and the harvest period was generally postponed.
At present, most of the dryland wheat in the north has completed sowing, and some has emerged; sowing of paddy-field wheat in the south is gradually getting underway. As of October 29, 79.1% of winter wheat had been sown nationwide, 1 percentage point slower than the same period last year. Nationwide, 74.4% of winter rapeseed had been sown, 3.6 percentage points slower than the same period last year.
