Qu Dongyu on how Internet Plus can establish the unique value orientation of agricultural products
China Securities Journal Online (Cub Reporter Jin Jiajie) “In terms of improving the value of agricultural products, ‘Internet Plus’ will establish a value orientation unique to agricultural products.” At the 2015 Agricultural Informatization Summit Forum held on the 7th, Vice Minister of Agriculture Qu Dongyu pointed out one of the profound effects of “Internet Plus” continuously penetrating modern agriculture.
“Agricultural products and industrial products are different. The agricultural products you have on a given day sell down smaller and smaller, while industrial products can be produced in batches and their quantity will not decrease. Therefore, when an auction mechanism is established for agricultural products, the price goes higher and higher as bidding continues, and ‘Internet Plus’ will establish a value orientation unique to agricultural products.” In his speech that day, Qu Dongyu repeatedly compared the characteristics of “Internet Plus” industry and raised the differences in the specific application of agricultural products.
To truly complete the value reshaping of agricultural products by “Internet Plus”, it is necessary to comprehensively and deeply advance the construction of modern agriculture. In this regard, Qu Dongyu proposed four key tasks for “Internet Plus” modern agriculture, and the views he offered were very down-to-earth.
First, accelerate the development of agricultural e-commerce, with a key breakthrough in removing the bottlenecks restricting e-commerce for fresh agricultural products. “Australian milk powder can be shipped over, but fresh milk cannot be shipped over. In this way, we can establish our own advantage when competing with foreign peers.” Qu Dongyu said this when discussing with e-commerce enterprises.
Second, deepen the demonstration application of the agricultural Internet of Things, and take the lead in advancing the application of agricultural Internet of Things technology in areas such as protected agriculture, livestock and poultry and aquaculture, and traceability of agricultural product quality and safety. “Increase scientific and technological research for modern agriculture. Agriculture is more complex than industry, because these are living organisms and there are more situations.”
Third, promptly implement the agricultural big data project, and strengthen the collection and analysis, sharing and opening, and development and utilization of agricultural and rural big data. “In doing the big data project for agriculture, data sharing by industry and region is very important. Enterprises should not only build their own small databases. That lacks social value. It may be useful in the early stage, but it is useless later. They must learn to establish big data that is mutually open and shared between enterprises and platforms.”
Fourth, vigorously improve agricultural information service capabilities, accelerate the advance of information into villages and households, expand the coverage and users of the 12316 agriculture, rural areas, and farmers information service platform system, and strengthen the construction of agricultural department websites, Weibo, WeChat, and mobile clients. Agricultural information must be made foolproof, so that every farmer can use the Internet and obtain information point-to-point.
The Internet is closely related to rural agricultural production and operation, and in the future “Internet Plus” will shape a new form of the agricultural industry. “From the natural production of agriculture to agricultural OEM, in the past there was bulk purchasing of agricultural products, and in the future it will shift to personalized customization of agricultural products, and personalized customization in agriculture may become more widespread than personalized customization in industry.”
