Shandong Shenxian Innovates with the "Large Material Yard, Small Mushroom House" Edible Mushroom Cultivation Model

In recent years, Shenxian in Shandong has worked hard to promote the large-scale development and standardized production of the edible mushroom industry, and has concentrated investment in building a number of modern edible mushroom cultivation bases that centralize the fermentation and production of mushroom sticks. Cultivation households purchase finished cultivation substrate and fermented mushroom sticks and put them directly into greenhouses for production. This model is called the “large material yard, small mushroom house” model. At present, the county already has 4 material yards, with a production capacity of 150,000 tons and 40,000 sticks, which can satisfy 1,000 households growing button mushrooms (Agaricus bisporus) and 2,000 households growing rare mushrooms on a year-round basis, reduce production costs by 10%, and increase total production and sales volume by 20%. The “large material yard, small mushroom house” model in Shenxian has achieved standardized production of cultivation substrate from raw material preparation to finished product delivery, raised the level of large-scale and industrialized production of edible mushrooms, and is conducive to promoting industrial upgrading.
