Cabbage Sold at Mutton Price: A Novelty from Yutian, Tangshan

Recently, the Chinese cabbage of the Black Cat King Farmers' Professional Cooperative in Yutian County has been selling well in the Beijing market, fetching a sky-high price of about 25 yuan per head, roughly on par with the current market price of mutton.

The cooperative's 300-mu fine vegetable garden belongs to the Beijing Municipal Government“vegetable basket”project; under the technical guidance of the Beijing Municipal Vegetable Research and Development Center and the Yutian County Agriculture and Animal Husbandry Bureau, it uses frontier science and technology such as drip irrigation and sonic fertilizer, adopts nuisance-free standardized production, and the agricultural products it produces fully meet the green and nuisance-free standard level. The “Ciyu” brand Yutian pointed-tip Chinese cabbage cultivated in the cooperative's fine garden won the “Gold Award” at the 2012 China Modern Agriculture Commodity Expo and was hailed as the “King of Cabbage”.
