Feicheng's 80,000 mu of Chinese cabbage enjoys a bumper harvest, with 80 percent already sold
As an important national vegetable production base and distribution center, Feicheng's cabbage planting area has now reached 80,000 mu, mainly distributed in Wangzhuang Town and Taoyuan Town, with last year's total output reaching 440,000 tons. At present, Feicheng's Chinese cabbage, enjoying a bumper harvest, has sold more than 80 percent.
According to reports, in recent years, Feicheng has explored the “two vegetables and one grain” planting model, which has effectively driven vegetable farmers to increase their incomes and become prosperous. “Two vegetables and one grain” refers to the collective term for planting models such as “potato—corn—cabbage” and “potato—corn—cauliflower.” Local vegetable farmers did the math: one mu of spring potatoes brings in more than 4,000 yuan, summer corn brings in more than 800 yuan, and autumn cabbage, even in the worst bumper year, brings in at least more than 800 yuan, so the worst total income per mu is around 5,600 yuan.
To effectively solve the problem of selling Chinese cabbage outside the region, in terms of sales channels, the Feicheng city government took the initiative to “go on the offensive,” leading and mobilizing various forces to help vegetable farmers contact buyer markets; relevant departments “acted as matchmakers,” strengthening communication and ties with large cities and opening up a “green channel for vegetables.” One of the platforms set up by the government, the “Luzhong Taoyuan Agricultural Products Logistics Park,” played a leading and driving role, selling more than 80% of Taoyuan Town's cabbage; at the same time, multiple channels such as e-commerce, direct farm-to-supermarket supply, and broker marketing also promoted the wholesale and sale of cabbage.
It is understood that the cabbage not yet sold at present is mainly because some vegetable farmers or large growers want to obtain higher expected returns and are waiting for a better price after the earlier market conditions were relatively good; another reason is that some vegetable farmers are keeping it for their own use.
