On January 6, the Taizhou City Seed Management Station convened the 2015 annual citywide seed management work summary meeting. More than 20 people attended the meeting, including the heads of the seed management stations of each city (district) and the technical backbone personnel implementing the new variety trial, demonstration and display. At the meeting, all localities exchanged information on the 2015 seed management work situation and the results of the new variety trial, demonstration and display for autumn-maturing crops, and studied and arranged the key tasks for citywide seed management in 2016.

The meeting held that in 2015, under the correct leadership of agricultural authorities at all levels and the guidance of higher-level professional departments, the citywide seed management system conscientiously performed the functions entrusted by the Seed Law and the Jiangsu Province Seed Management Regulations, deeply carried out the special campaign against seed “double counterfeiting,” strengthened seed market supervision, earnestly did a good job in new variety trials, demonstrations and extension, and strove to standardize seed market order, achieving relatively good results. However, there were also problems such as relatively weak management capacity; many seed business stores and uneven quality of operators, making supervision difficult; and unlabeled “white-package” seeds bringing safety risks to production.

The meeting proposed the key tasks for citywide seed management in 2016: first, earnestly do a good job in publicizing and implementing the newly revised Seed Law and its supporting regulations; second, continue to deepen the special campaign against seed “double counterfeiting”; third, issue seed production and operation licenses in accordance with the law; fourth, increase the intensity of new variety trials, demonstrations and displays; fifth, strengthen field planting identification work for the safety of new varieties; sixth, standardize the implementation of provincial-level seed safety supervision projects.
