Pomelos get bagged in an outer coat, and fruit sells better on looks
Yesterday, visiting some fruit supermarkets in our city, I found that fruit packaging is getting more and more fancy. Some fruits are given exquisite packaging bags, and others are sealed into flower baskets. Under the merchants' deliberate “dressing up”, these ordinary fruits look much “prettier”. For example, pomelos are put into exquisite plastic packaging bags to attract customers, and a dozen or so oranges are packed in a mesh bag and sold together. Moreover, some finely packaged gift-box fruits are priced quite a bit higher than fruits sold “bare”.
Merchants rack their brains to sell goods, and after fruit is “packaged”, it indeed attracts the attention of many consumers. Recently, Ms. Liu, a resident who bought a box of kiwifruit at a fruit supermarket, said the boxed kiwifruit contained a dozen or so, priced at less than 20 yuan. She had originally only wanted to buy a few to try, but the merchant said they were only sold by the whole box, so she had no choice but to buy a box.
In this regard, some residents said they have a better impression of packaged fruit and feel it is more exquisite and of better quality. But other residents “do not buy it”, because some fruits double in value just because of fine packaging, and the packaging is also weighed together with the fruit, and consumers have to “pay” for it too. Some residents also worry that even if the fruit inside the packaging box has quality problems, it cannot be seen at all. In this regard, industry insiders suggest that when choosing fruit, the main thing is still eating it, and when buying it is best to compare more and not be blinded by the “surface show” put on by merchants.
