On December 18, in the atrium of a shopping mall at Xinjiekou in Nanjing, Jiangsu, a newly opened space launcher “return capsule” displays a bizarre world of fruits and vegetables: a “steel pumpkin” weighing over 200 jin, “long-legged green peppers” with an astonishing vitamin content, colorful “mighty tomato babies”, and fiber-free “kung fu watermelons” with an ice cream texture…… Starting that day, the mall launched a “space seeds” popular science special exhibition; the exotic vegetables, fruits and seeds on site were cultivated through space breeding technology, and the seeds undergo “mutation” in the special space environment, which can produce many new fruit and vegetable varieties that do not exist on Earth.
