Understory edible mushroom cultivation becomes a prosperous industry for Miaocheng Town in Huairou District, Beijing
At the Beijing Taoshan Moon Lake Breeding and Cultivation Professional Cooperative in Miaocheng Town, an understory edible mushroom cultivation industry has now been developed, supported by the city's understory economy policy. Nearly 800,000 jin of edible mushrooms are harvested here each year, generating annual revenue of about 3.2 million yuan.
Through experimentation and promotion, this cooperative has worked out its own cultivation experience. Four types of edible mushrooms are grown in the woodland: shiitake, oyster mushroom, bamboo fungus and chestnut mushroom. Each type sells for an average market price of 5 yuan per jin, and the on-site picking price can reach 10 yuan per jin.
According to the person in charge, edible mushrooms naturally prefer shady places, and growing them under the forest canopy saves a great deal of equipment, so production costs are relatively reduced. In this 100-mu woodland, there is no need to build any complex facilities or invest excessive funds. Workers only need to water every day to maintain soil moisture, and the edible mushrooms can grow very well in the ground through mushroom sticks.
Through several years of experimentation, the cooperative has found that cultivating edible mushrooms under the forest has more advantages than in greenhouses. Now this cooperative has become a promotion station for successful cultivation experience, attracting many agricultural enthusiasts to visit and learn here. Next, the cooperative plans to build some infrastructure in the understory area to attract more people to visit and pick mushrooms here.
