Dongxing City, Guangxi organizes experts to measure and verify the yield of a new cassava variety

On December 18, the Dongxing City Agriculture Bureau of Guangxi organized agricultural science and technology personnel to go to the tuber crop experimental demonstration base in Hezhou Village, Dongxing Town, to conduct yield measurement and acceptance for the high-quality edible cassava new variety “Huanan 12”, which Dongxing City introduced from Hainan in 2015. After calculation, the average yield per plant of “Huanan 12” was 5.77 kg (the highest yield per plant was 12.3 kg), with 833 plants per mu (plant-row spacing of 0.67 m × 1.20 m), and the average yield per mu was 4806.4 kg. In the field, this variety showed the advantages of extensive management, very few pest and disease occurrences, and high yield. In addition, the hydrocyanic acid (HCN) content in the storage roots of this variety is only about 40 mg/kg (ordinary cassava content is 400-680 mg/kg). According to international standards, it belongs to a cassava variety that can be eaten fresh, and after cooking it has a delicate taste and excellent edibility.

The introduction and trial planting of this variety, along with the bumper harvest obtained, will have far-reaching significance in promoting the city's grain structure adjustment and enriching the “vegetable basket”, and it is worth vigorously promoting its cultivation throughout Dongxing.
