The Deep-Seated Reasons Why Urbanization Should Not Continue to Be Accelerated
Original editor's note: After a gap of 37 years, the Central Urban Work Conference was convened again, marking a new stage in China's urban development, and "urbanization" has become a focus of public attention. At present, China's urbanization rate of permanent residents is already close to 55%, which means that China's urban development is in a stage of rapid growth.

Corn price fluctuation risks remain in the outlook, North China market needs caution
Since mid-December, corn prices in the North China production area have fluctuated quite frequently, overall going through a process of decline-rebound-decline. On one hand, the weather improved, corn supply in North China recovered quickly, and enterprises saw increased arrivals, but downstream demand could not absorb it effectively, and the market pattern shifted again from a period of tight supply to a situation of oversupply, with prices continuing to fall reasonably as the market expected. On the other hand, grain moisture content was relatively high, and enterprises interested in low-moisture grain sources were forced to raise purchase prices, which in turn drove prices to stop falling and stabilise, and combined with increased outflow of some grain sources, prices in some areas even rebounded slightly. As of now, the ex-factory price of 14.5% moisture third-grade corn at deep-processing enterprises in Weifang, Shandong is 1880-1940 yuan/tonne, down about 20 yuan/tonne from last weekend, with a few enterprises seeing slightly larger declines; the ex-factory price in Shijiazhuang, Hebei is around 1740 yuan/tonne, down about 20 yuan/tonne from last weekend. It is expected that in the short term North China corn will remain stable with a weak bias, and prices will fall more in areas where farmers are more active in selling grain.

December Marks the Off-Season for Vegetable Supply, Affected by Rain, Snow and Low Light
According to monitoring by the Ministry of Agriculture's Vegetable Production Information Network, vegetable supply in November was basically flat year-on-year, while farm-gate wholesale prices rose both month-on-month and year-on-year. In December, as the off-season for supply begins, North China, Northeast China and other areas are affected by prolonged haze, overcast skies and snowy weather, which is unfavorable for vegetable growth and development.

What are the reasons for the low efficiency of fiscal support for agriculture?
[Too-long allocation channels, fragmented distribution mechanisms, mismatch between fiscal authority and administrative responsibility, imperfect official assessment and oversight mechanisms, and unscientific decision-making mechanisms are the main factors behind the low efficiency in the use of fiscal funds for supporting agriculture.] Since the beginning of the 21st century, the central government, on the basis of fully realizing the reduction and exemption of agricultural taxes and fees,

Temporary Storage Price Cut: Why a Bumper Harvest Becomes a Worry for Farmers
In the Northeast production areas, the temporary storage corn purchase policy has been in effect for more than a month and a half. Data from the State Administration of Grain shows that as of December 10, cumulative temporary storage corn purchases in the Northeast production areas reached 31.9 million tons, including 5.14 million tons in Inner Mongolia, 690,000 tons in Liaoning, 680,000 tons in Jilin

National Forum of Major Grain-Producing Counties: Let grain farmers benefit and let major producing areas not lose out
Among the 800 major grain-producing counties that account for nearly three-quarters of the country's total grain output, more than 100 are national-level poverty-stricken counties, with 36 million poor people. This shows that the phenomenon of "grain-finance inversion" between China's grain output and county-level fiscal capacity is already very obvious, and may bring hidden dangers to food security.

Breeding work for niche crops should not be neglected
How long does it take to breed a new crop variety? Older-generation breeders often tell me: ten years to breed one variety. This is no exaggeration. Even with off-season propagation in the south to add generations, traditional biological breeding techniques still require breeders to spend eight to ten years to select and breed a satisfactory

The nursery stock industry enters a new normal, where survival challenges and green opportunities coexist
For a long time, most nursery stock practitioners have focused only on which varieties are profitable to grow, which varieties are the best, and which fast-growing varieties exist, concentrating all their attention on how to make a quick profit. As a result, problems have emerged such as a sharp decline in nursery stock sales, rising costs, and a highly saturated market
