Grain Smuggling Trends Shift Toward the Southwest Land Border
Reporters recently visiting the border areas of Guangxi found that since last year, as customs and other relevant departments have stepped up enforcement, smuggling along the Guangxi-Vietnam border has been effectively curbed. Among the smuggling cases investigated and handled, grain smuggling cases, mainly involving rice, have clearly

Cheap Western Agricultural Imports May Crush Chinese Agriculture
The impact of cheap agricultural imports on Chinese agriculture is obvious: phenomena that occurred during the era of capitalist economic crises, such as abandoned farmland, dumping milk, and slaughtering cattle, have been replayed in China. Recently, the author learned that after importing soybeans, corn,

Rice and corn grain filling will be affected, southwestern China to see low temperatures and scant sunshine over the next ten days
Since late July, most of southwestern China has had many rainy days, with sunshine hours in Yunnan and Guizhou 30% to 80% below the same period in normal years; temperatures have been low, with Yunnan's average temperature at 21.1°C, the lowest since 1990. Single-season rice in southwestern China is at the critical stage of heading and flowering and grain filling, while summer corn is at the tasseling to grain-filling stage. Low temperatures, rain and scant sunshine will inhibit or delay rice flowering, causing poor pollination of rice ears and an increased rate of empty grains; at the same time, low temperatures and scant sunshine will also affect the grain-filling rate of rice and corn, leading to a decline in grain weight.

New wheat in eastern Henan and western Shandong is poised for a bumper harvest, and a good wheat harvest is in sight
New wheat in eastern Henan and western Shandong is poised for a bumper harvest. According to the southern route wheat survey by the China Grain Network, the wheat sown area in Shangqiu, Henan, has maintained a slight upward trend in recent years, and wheat varieties are mainly high-yield wheats such as Aikang 58, Zhongmai 18, and Zhongmai 22. In terms of high-quality wheat planting, the main varieties include Zhoumai 24, Xinmai 26, and Zhengmai 7698, with an incompletely counted sown area of less than 1 million mu, and planting is relatively scattered. Judging from the current growth situation, pests and diseases are occurring rather severely, leading to mild white head symptoms, but the overall wheat growth is the best in historical years, and it can be expected that if the weather is normal later, there will still be a bumper harvest year. Wheat growth in Heze, Shandong, is relatively good, but unlike the areas surveyed earlier, local enterprises do not believe that the local wheat support price plan will be activated, because Shandong had rarely activated the plan before, and because Shandong wheat quality is relatively good, with many buyers from surrounding areas coming in past years, and at one point the saying "(wheat) rises, look to Shandong" was circulated. From our on-the-ground understanding, the mainstream local wheat price is about 1.25 yuan/jin, roughly the same as wheat prices in surrounding areas.

How can corn planting be adapted to local conditions? The ecological conditions in the Southwest region are complex
Editor's note: The ecological conditions in China's Southwest region vary greatly, which also causes large variations in the growth period of corn. The Southwest corn region includes Sichuan, Yunnan, Guizhou, Chongqing, southern Shaanxi, Guangxi, the western hilly areas of Hunan and Hubei, and a small part of Gansu Province. It is

More paddy fields in southwest China converted from water to dry land, undermining disaster resilience and the ecological environment
Paddy fields seen everywhere in southwest China are facing a crisis: more and more are being converted from water to dry land, more are being left abandoned, and their number keeps shrinking. This not only directly affects agricultural production but, more importantly, paddy fields in the southwest also serve as a huge water conservation area, and their destruction poses no small hidden risk to agriculture

Water-saving irrigation network helps arid regions of northwest China achieve efficient agricultural production
In the Ningxia Hui Autonomous Region in northwest China, it is summer, and crops planted this year such as vegetables and goji berries are growing vigorously, no longer crying out for water. This is thanks to a technology China has tried to promote in recent years - highly efficient water-saving irrigation, which has now "encompassed" part of the
