Detailed introduction to the Cymbidium goeringii cultivar Yaochi Xiannv
Yaochi Xiannv (third-generation Biyao), selectively bred in 1998 by the veteran Zhejiang orchid grower Ding Yiqing from a directed selection of a mutation of the common Biyao. This cultivar has a semi-pendant leaf shape, a relatively deep V-shape, and thicker, dwarfed leaf texture, with crystal formations and faint variegation. In vigorous plants, the fourth leaf turns into a leaf butterfly, and by the fifth and sixth leaves it becomes fully lip-and-tongue-like and exudes fragrance, no different from the flower's scent. The flower opens with a white base and purple-red markings, with three symmetric tongues, exceptionally showy.
